Poem: Waiting in Prayer, Together

Flying through the clouds,
all of us winging our way
your way,
to be there for whatever you need.

Chatter breaking into the
poignant silence which sits,
tense and staring,
in every corner of the room.

Tomorrow is the day we have
waited for in hope and dread,
when we must do the unthinkable,
that which breaks our hearts
but mends his.

Nothing more to do to prepare
but rock and sing and pray;
sharing silent, eloquent looks
as we hold this little laughing boy
close to our our own beating hearts.

This is that place
where push comes to shove,
where we step out in  faith
and rest our heads upon
God's strong shoulder,
opening hands and hearts
to the Holiness that surrounds us all.
