Poem: In Between

I find that I miss you
in between times;
driving to big events,
waiting for planes,
sitting on the porch after
everyone has left.

The everyday things
are not a problem for me,
buying groceries and
brushing my hair,
mopping the floor and
doing the dishes;
but I miss you in between.
 I miss you
in between times;
waiting for the teapot
to heat in the morning,
in the time between
your coming in from the field
and time for bed,
lying in bed and listening
to the laughter and chatter
of our kids in the other room.

Our lives ran parallel to each other
and only touched in those
times in between,
and that is where I miss you.
