Sea Glass

Moving time, like moving water, rounds off our corners, smooths the sharp sticky-out places that tend to cause others harm.  Those who try to hold onto the ways and habits of youth too long become ridiculous and laughable, just as a man dressed in the clothes of a child is laughable. Life has many different phases and it behooves us to step as gracefully as we can manage from one into the next, without putting up too much of a fight.
Youthful arrogance and ego can give way to compassionate humility when time and normal life events make it painfully clear to us that we are neither the smartest one in the room, nor the center of the universe. Surprise! Welcome to the human family, where we all bring our various gifts to the table so that everyone is better off. Know this as well: your gifts may change as your life moves along. Be ready for that possibility.
But know also that as time and the dust of the road wear you away, your truest and deepest colors will emerge, if you allow them the space to emerge. Light will shine through you and bless those whose lives you touch. The color of your spirit will brighten even the shadows.
