Poem: Something New (for Kathy)

This once glorious blossom
trembling, shatters in the wind,
drops its faded petals, one by one
through autumn chiming air.

Through winter's dark and roar,
and the singing that is spring,
they will soften, loosen, disappear,
be taken back into all there ever was.

The Mystery of life enfolds,
transforms, enhances, re-creates
a surprise and an astonishment:
speckled-throated frog song and
swallows rising through a golden dawn.
